Is there a responsible consumption of alcohol?

Governments of many countries, as well as the World Health Organization, have issued guidelines for «safe» or «responsible consumption» of alcohol for adults.

It should be noted, however, that the levels of tolerance to alcohol, and therefore the consequences to the human body, differ from person to person.

For this reason, despite the guidelines,
what is most important isfor each person to know his limits.

The definition «responsible» or low-risk drinking according to the World Health Organization is:

Women do not drink more thantwo (2) alcohol units a day
Men do not drink more thanthree (3) alcohol units a day

Do not exceed four (4) alcohol units on any occasion

In some cases, drinking alcohol should be completely avoided:

•    Young people under 18
•    When driving
•    Pregnant or nursing women
•    People taking medications or having health problems

Men or women who consistently drink alcohol in higher levels than those recommended, increase the possibilities to harm their health.
